Designed by architect Eduardo de Souto Moura, this museum, which opened in 2009, is dedicated to one of the most internationally celebrated Portuguese contemporary artists, Paula Rego. Sometimes referred to as a house of stories there are 750 square metres of exhibition rooms with almost 600 works or stories of Rego’s mythological-, folk- and fairytale-inspired paintings, drawings and etchings. In addition to the permanent collection, there are temporary exhibitions and educational activities. There’s an auditorium for conferences, a café with terrace and a gift boutique.
